Unless I’m overlooking things, remoteStorage (RS) still has great USP’s compared to some other/later efforts:
- RS does not fork the ecosystem like VeilID, Hyper, even RDF etc.
- RS keeps things simple by focusing on files (not structured data like RDF/Solid)
- most people use clouddrives already (with nextcloud/sharepoint offering webdav access)
- RS javascript widget has adapters to popular clouddrives (dropbox/gdrive)
- WebDav lacks permissions/robustness (but adapter in widget might make sense)
- RS allows for easy integration between apps (instead of point-to-point REST interfaces, apps can agree on certain dir/filestructures.)
Eventhough I’m late to the game: it’s still early days society-wise imho.
Great to see RS still going strong with reasonably small effort.
